Document Description
The proposed Southern California Edison (SCE) project (TD1705171) for utility pole 1828231E (Loc 1) is located on the northerly side of westbound State Route 155 (SR-155) in Kern County at Post Mile (PM) R6.32. This location is between SR-155’s intersection with Zerker Rd, PM R5.47 and Famoso Porterville Hwy, PM R6.55. Within the State right-of-way, the project proposes to replace an existing 45-foot Class 4 wood pole with a new 45-foot Class 1 wood pole at Loc 1. The proposed scope of work is necessary as the existing distribution pole has deteriorated, which presents a safety hazard due to the increased risk of structural failure that will compromise the support provided to the overhead conductors. The deteriorated pole will also be replaced with a higher-class pole which can better withstand the conductor loads of the attached pole lines. The existing and proposed pole is a joint pole; therefore, coordination will be necessary for the transfer of the tenant’s utilities from the existing pole to the proposed pole. The anticipated excavation depth is 78 inches, the width is 24 inches, and the length is 2 feet. Caltrans would issue an encroachment permit to allow for the proposed work to occur within State right-of-way.
