Document Description
The Department of Fish and Wildlife is issuing a permit to the Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 2081(a) for educational purposes. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes the applicant to take coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss irideus), and Pacific leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) during the course of sampling, subject to terms and conditions set forth in the permit. The purpose of this sampling is for the Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research’s research studies. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes the applicant to potentially capture coho salmon, Chinook salmon, steelhead trout, and Pacific leatherback sea turtle during surveys. The applicant will conduct year-round research of deep-diving pelagic species through the use of hook & line – surface, hook & line – baited dropper loop, hook & line – unbaited shrimpfly, hook & line – baited shrimpfly through December 31, 2027.
