Document Description
This Project consists of interior improvements and an addition to the existing building 004 Aero Hanger Machine Shop located on-campus within the developed areas of the campus core. As a Research Development Center, the Aero Hanger Machine Shop provides student/faculty/club project and activity spaces for various College of Engineering disciplines. The new addition is approximately 1,800 GSF and will primarily house new equipment to support research work for students and faculty in aerospace engineering. This Project advances the University’s Learn By Doing pedagogy by providing additional research and collaboration space specific to aerospace engineering.

Reasons for Exemption
This project consists of both interior alterations for equipment related to an educational projects laboratory and expansion of the existing facility of less than 2,500 sqft. for instructional/institutional purposes. The area of expansion is on previously developed lands within the boundary of the project site. The project has minimal new site infrastructure, consisting of sidewalks and storm drain inlets. The site will still have substantially the same purpose and capacity. It can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the proposed project involves any activity that may have a significant effect on the environment. These attributes are consistent with: CLASS 1 - EXISTING FACILITIES: operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public structures, (a) Interior or exterior alterations involving such things as interior partitions, plumbing, and electrical conveyances, and (e) Additions to existing structures provided that the addition will not result in an increase of more than 2,500 square feet; CLASS 11 - ACCESSORY STRUCTURES: construction, or replacement of minor structures accessory to (appurtenant to) existing commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities; the COMMON SENSE EXEMPTION: Section 15061(b)(3), in that it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the project may have a significant effect on the environment.
