Document Description
SoCalGas will assess and repair an existing natural gas pipeline (L2001) exposure that resulted from high flows in the adjacent ephemeral stream channel due to Tropical Storm Hilary. The Project involves assessing the condition of approximately 650 feet of exposed natural gas pipeline, verifying the condition of the pipe, making necessary repairs, and remediating the exposure. Project activities will include excavating a trench measuring approximately 15 feet wide and up to 8 feet deep to expose and inspect the pipeline, performing pipeline repairs, replacement and re-coating as needed, and re-burying the pipeline using native soil. Project site access and temporary staging will occur along existing roads. Work areas will be established within a SoCalGas right-of-way and private property with an approved temporary right of entry. Site preparation includes removing desert scrub vegetation from excavation areas. Excavated soil will be stockpiled for use as backfill. The upper six inches of topsoil will be segregated to preserve the existing seed bank. Stockpiles will be wetted and contained within the work area to avoid dust and runoff, and work will only occur during dry weather. Disturbed topography and contours will be returned to pre-project conditions.
