Document Description
The purpose of this project is to identify, map, and treat invasive species, reduce wildfire fuel loads, and improve habitat for protected species at Brannan Island State Recreation Area. Under direction of State Parks staff, the Greater Valley Conservation Corps (GVCC) team and intern will: Identify, map and monitor invasive and protected species via GIS; Plan for, and use hand tools and qualified applicators under an active license to, execute manual thinning andchemical treatment of invasive species throughout the park, including along 2.3 miles of shoreline; Propagate native species within the onsite nursery to assist in future planting efforts; Create a minimum of 30ft of defensible space around structures and a maximum of 100ft; Limb vegetation in high traffic areas up to 12ft for increased vehicle clearance; Reduce wildfire fuel load and create fuel breaks among the existing ornamental eucalyptus wind break (approx.9,000 trees); Reduce erosion along shoreline; Improve access to ADA trails; and Dispose of material via pile and air curtain burner or at an offsite facility.
