Document Description
The purpose of this project is to improve shoulder conditions along the north side of Highway 96, through the unincorporated community of Orleans. The project extends from the Orleans Elementary School at the westerly end to 0.1 mile east of Ishi-Pishi Road (~1,300 ft). Proposed improvements include an extended shoulder and drainage at PM 38.36.
The extended shoulder will be 5' wide from ETW and within prescriptive rights. The design for the extended shoulder will be a combination of 4' of pavement (HMA) and 1' of shoulder backing (specific gravel mix). Existing shoulder currently paved 4' from ETW (or greater) will remain in place. Private driveways will be paved the full 5' from ETW. New pavement will require 10-12" of excavation and shoulder backing will require 3-4" of excavation.
Drainage improvements at PM 38.36 will be achieved using surface grading and overland stormwater routing for conveying water to Wilder Gulch through a short series of swales, from area which floods during winter. A Temporary Construction Easement will be required to access the north side near the private residence.
