Document Description
Caltrans proposes to repair two slip outs that resulted from recent rain events. The slip out located at PM 7.22 is about 15 feet wide and 10 feet deep. The slip out located at PM 7.21 is about 45 feet wide and 10 feet deep. The edge of failure (hinge point) is four feet from the edge of pavement. This emergency work is necessary to prevent and mitigate the loss or impairment of life, property, and essential public service. The project will involve constructing a 90-foot-long by approximately 15-foot-tall soldier pile retaining wall with a waler and concrete face along the southbound shoulder at the slip out at PM 7.21. A 180-foot-long secant wall with pile cap and no exposed facing spaced at 2.5 feet will be constructed at the slip out at PM 7.22. The total length of the retaining wall will be 270 feet. The top of the walls will be in line with the original ground so the walls will not be visible from the roadway. A 50-foot-long rock lined ditch and a 70’ x 4’ x 2’ bioretention area will be constructed at the bottom of the wall.
