Document Description
On September 8, 2024, the Bridge Fire ignited in San Bernardino County and burned approximately 56,030 acres before being fully contained on November 26, 2024. A Governor Proclaimed State of Emergency has been declared for San Bernardino County. Proposed emergency protection measures include placing k-rail or other barriers at strategic locations along existing roadways and property lines to enhance public safety by protecting people's lives, property, and public infrastructure during storm season.

The unincorporated community of Wrightwood within the Bridge Fire burn scar, which extends from the north end of the San Dimas Experimental Forest to the Table Mountain Plateau, south of Pinon Hills, in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. The proposed emergency protection measures will take place at multiple locations in the community including but not limited to, six (6) locations along State Highway 2 between Cardinal Road and Spruce Street, one (1) location on Pheasant Road, and one (1) location on Thrush Road.

Section 15269(a) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines allows for emergency repairs to an area which a State of Emergency has been proclaimed by the Governor, as Governor Newsom declared on September 7, 2024. Section 15269(b) allows for emergency repairs to publicly or privately owned facilities to maintain service essential to public health, safety, or welfare. Emergency repairs include those that require a reasonable amount of planning to address an anticipated emergency. Section 15269(c) allows for specific actions taken to mitigate for an emergency.
