Document Description
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), pursuant to authority granted under California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 20, Sec. 66270.61, has issued an Emergency Permit to the California State University, Long Beach, (EPA ID# CAD981414550) to treat hazardous wastes through a controlled reaction with chemical solutions. Specifically, three (3) 100-gram (g) containers of 3-Chloroperoxybenzoic Acid; one (1) 25-g container of Diazald; and three (3) 500-g containers of 2,2 Azobis (2-Methylpropionitrile) must be stabilized prior to transportation to an authorized hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility.
These chemicals are currently being stored at the California State University, Long Beach located at 5800 E. Atherton Street, Long Beach, California 90840. DTSC has determined as a safety precaution to prevent an accident or severe injury, an Emergency Permit should be issued for Clean Harbors Environmental Services (Clean Harbors) to chemically stabilize the hazardous wastes prior to storage and eventual transportation off-site.
