Document Description
The purpose of this project is to replace the existing failing leach field in in the Day Use Area of Richardson Grove State Park to allow for the continued use of the area by the public. The leach field has continually failed over the last several years during busy holiday weekends, resulting in closure of the facilities so maintenance can perform extensive clean-up before re-opening. Work will:
•Remove by hand the existing grass/sod in 2-foot-wide strips and stockpile for future use;
•Use a mini excavator to excavate five (5) 60-ft long by 3-4-ft deep trenches and stockpile the spoils for future use;
•Install a new sewer infiltrator chambered leach field system; and
Use the stockpiled soil to back fill over the system and relay the removed sod.
The existing septic tank will be left in place and the old leach field will either be left in place or replaced with the new infiltrator system during excavation. The project will avoid cutting roots greater than 2-in. in diameter and ground disturbing activities will maintain distances of at least 5x the diameter at breast height (DBH) around each tree located within the project vicinity to avoid impacts to the structural root zone. All proposed excavator work will be performed by park staff between September 1st and October 31st to adhere to county building code.
