Document Description
The City of Redding will conduct hazardous fuel management activities utilizing grant funds received from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The work will be performed at priority locations that area at risk and vulnerable to catastrophic wildfire. The scope of work includes under story thinning and tree pruning to create and maintain shaded fuel breaks. Existing dense tree cover will be thinned and underlying brush will be removed, chipped, or burned. Hazardous vegetation, including dead and dying trees will be removed. The second step involves follow up grazing, and herbicide treatment if needed.

Reasons for Exemption
Class 1 exemptions include the operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing structures, facilities, and topographical features. Class 4 exemptions consist of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation. The existing open space areas will be cleaned up and fire fuels will be removed to lower the potential for fire in the wildland-urban interface. Mature healthy trees will be trimmed and protected. The project will result in no expansion of use, and the project has no potential to have a significant effect on the environment.
