CAL FIRE would provide funding to the Cultural Fire Management Council (CFMC) to implement the Skey-wok Kee’ We Mech (It Needs Fire) Phase 1 Project (Project) on the upper Yurok Reservation along the Klamath River in Humboldt County. Treatments include cultural/prescribed fire and oak woodland restoration. The purpose of these treatments is to restore or provide habitat for California native fish and wildlife and intend to also reduce wildfire risks to local resources and community members and improve forest resiliency.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has determined the Project meets the qualifying criteria set forth in Section 21080.56, subdivisions (a) through (d), inclusive. This determination is supported by (1) CAL FIRE’s November 21, 2024, initial determination as the lead agency, that the Project meets the qualifying criteria set forth in Section 21080.56, subdivisions (a) through (d), inclusive; and (2) pursuant to Section 21080.56, subdivision (e), the CDFW Director’s December 27, 2024, concurrence with that lead agency determination, which is available at https://wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Cutting-Green-Tape/SERP/Concurrences
