Document Description
For the proposed City of Chico Providing Broadband Service to Butte County Locations in Need of Investment project, the CPUC has determined that the City of Chico Providing Broadband Service to Butte County Locations in Need of Investment project, which will deliver unserved Broadband Access for Last Mile Infrastructure is categorically exempt CEQA review. The City of Chico Providing Broadband Service to Butte County Locations in Need of Investment proponents, provided the Commission with its project plans to install fiber and supporting facilities within existing public rights-of-way and primarily on existing poles and will install new segments, as required. Best Management Practices will be implemented during construction. The project is located in the City of Chico and in the County of Butte. The city proposes to install fiber optic infrastructure (conduit, fiber optic cables and other necessary equipment) for 9,040 households and businesses in the proposed service area in Chico, California. There is a small section of the project area that is unincorporated and remains as a Butte County jurisdiction. Butte County is not in a position to provide service to this area and would rely on the City of Chico to provide service. Butte County is aware and in support of the City of Chico’s plan to provide services to these residences. Approximately 175,168 linear feet of conduit will be placed underground on the edges of existing roadways. This will require minor disturbance of the roadway, where a narrow trench up to 30 inches deep will be created. Primary roadways impacted include Park Avenue; Main Street; East Park Avenue; East 20th Street; Mangrove Avenue; East 8th Street; East 9th Street; and Walnut Street, among others.
