Document Description
The overall goal of this 437-acre project is to enhance oak woodland and riparian system functioning and ecological value for wildlife while engaging the local community and tribal nations in conservation and cultural practices. The project will increase native plant species abundance and diversity to improve and expand habitat value for a diversity of birds, mammals, amphibians, and other wildlife. The project will also improve and protect the condition of cultural resources and vegetation utilized for cultural means on the landscape.
Initial project phases will remove target invasive plant species, including common fig, from impacted riparian corridors using a variety of proven nonherbicide restoration methods. There will be subsequent revegetation of native plant species as a collaborative effort with Indigenous partners from the Wukchumni and Wuksachi Tribes to ensure that plant species selected will maximize survivorship, ecological, and cultural benefits. Above ground irrigation system will be installed where deemed necessary. The repair and construction of livestock water trough and fencing infrastructure will protect restoration sites and sensitive areas. Structures for wildlife such as brush piles will also be installed to quickly increase available habitat. (WCB Project Tracker ID: 2022065).
