Document Description
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (District) proposes collection of propagules in District open space preserves within Santa Clara and San Mateo counties for propagation of nursery plants to support restoration projects and revegetation activities associated with District capital improvement projects. A supply of native plants and propagules specific to each restoration and capital improvement project site is required to meet project goals and associated permit requirements. Collection of propagules within District preserves allows for site specific restoration by collecting propagules within the same watershed as the project site to ensure nursery plants propagated and propagules are appropriate and well adapted to help ensure their establishment. All propagule collection and propagation activities will adhere to Best Management Practices developed by the Phytophthoras in Native Habitats Working Group and the California Native Plant Society. Collection protocols include no more than 5-10% of propagules are collected from a viable population.
