Notice of Exemption
Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 1, Section 15301
Reasons for Exemption
“Class 1 consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The types of “existing facilities” itemized below are not intended to be all-inclusive of the types of projects that might fall within Class 1. The key consideration is whether the project involves negligible or no expansion of use.”
The proposed project includes the installation of 70-foot tall sport field lights to replace the existing 14 sport field lights, ranging between 35-45 feet tall, at three softball fields. This change constitutes a minor alteration to an existing structure and does not involve an expansion of the existing softball fields. Therefore, the project is exempt from CEQA pursuant to Section 15301 of the State CEQA Guidelines.
