Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is issuing a California Endangered Species Act and Native Plant Protection Act scientific, educational, or management permit to Lee Gordon (Permit No. 2081(a)-24-012-RP) pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 2081(a) for a project involving herbicide treatment and manual removal of non-native, invasive fountain grass (Pennisetum setaceum) to control invasive species in occupied willowy monardella habitat.
The Permittee will monitor the site annually to assess fountain grass presence and need for treatment during willowy mint’s flowering period that typically begins in June each year. Project activities will include: (1) the manual removal of any fountain grass seedlings; (2) clipping aboveground biomass of well-established fountain grass clumps and bagging and removing cut material off-site for disposal; and (3) painting a mix of 2% glyphosate herbicide and 0.4% nonionic surfactant directly on the cut fountain grass stubble to avoid impacts to surrounding willowy mint populations. Treatment will only occur during dry weather periods when adjacent creeks are dry. Geographic Information System (GIS) coordinates will be recorded for all fountain grass individuals located and treated annually.
