Document Description
On September 8, 2024, the Bridge Fire ignited in San Bernardino County, burning approximately 56,030 acres and is still not fully contained. A Governor Proclaimed State of Emergency has been declared for San Bernardino County. Emergency work involves clearing channels and culverts of trees, vegetation, sediment, and debris; repairing inverts and slopes; repairing erosions and damage to flood facilities and their access roads; and restoring capacity to enhance public safety from postfire
damage and anticipated future impacts.

Reasons for Exemption
Section 15269(a) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines allows for emergency repairs to an area which a State of Emergency has been proclaimed by the Governor, as Governor Newsom declared on September 7, 2024. Section 15269(b) allows for emergency repairs to publicly or privately owned facilities to maintain service essential to public health, safety, or welfare. Emergency repairs include those that require a reasonable amount of planning to address an anticipated emergency. Section 15269(c) allows for specific actions taken to mitigate for an emergency.
