Document Description
The Tribe has been awarded a Last Mile Federal Funding Account grant from the California Public Utilities Commission to fund the Chumash Fiber Network project for the installation of fiber optic line to Tribal Citizens. The Chumash Fiber Network project area includes an estimated 120 unserved locations and an estimated unserved population of 892. An estimated total population of 1,710 will benefit from these investments in and around the Tribal Lands of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. The last-mile fiber project will provide up to five gigabits per second symmetrical service to consumers. CPUC has recommended the Tribe submit this NOE since the Tribe has Trust and Self Governance authority.

Reasons for Exemption
The CPUC determined that the projects proposed by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians FFA Last Mile Broadband Fiber Project, would qualify as exempt under one or more CEQA categorical exemptions. The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians will conduct the necessary cultural reviews to avoid impact to any confidential historical resources within the area. According to the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians there are no exceptions to the use of the Categorical Exemptions as outlined in Section 15300.2 of the State CEQA Guidelines.
