Document Description
The City of Oakland will build a hybrid middle mile/last mile network, comprising 12.85 miles of new middle mile fiber, 11.75 miles of existing municipal fiber, and 9.28 miles of new last-mile fiber in underserved areas. This infrastructure, aligned with CPUC’s goal to close the digital divide, will connect 2,544 underserved households in 27 Oakland Housing Authority multi-dwelling units across West Oakland, Downtown, Fruitvale, and East Oakland. The project includes in-building wiring for 1,277 units and will also provide last-mile connections to 14 community anchor institutions, nine public safety buildings, and 302 unserved locations. Additionally, it will support future connections to 12 more MDUs, 4,578 businesses, and potential fixed wireless networks, linking to the City's existing network and the State’s middle mile network at strategic points in East Oakland and Fruitvale.
