Proposed project would upgrade the existing fire alarm system to a new fully automatic Siemens fire alarm system in residential buildings 10, 11, and 12. Residential Buildings 10 and 12 are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and are included on the state master list of historic resources, as contributors to the Porterville Developmental Center Historic District. Residential Building 11 was previously so altered, that it was not included as a contributor to the Porterville Developmental Center Historic District.

Class 1 allows for the repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public facilities, mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The project plans were review by a Preservation Architect and determined to be is sensitive to the historic character of the two contributor buildings and all work is reversible, and therefore will not have an adverse effect on the historic nature of the resource. The State has confirmed no exceptions to the exemption apply.
