Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-SON-49225-R3, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to Sonoma County Regional Parks.
The project is limited to the assembly of four large wood jams, construction of beaver damn analogue structures, and readjustment of an additional ten downed large wood pieces to have increased stream channel contact, as further described below. Wood material will be sourced directly from areas immediately adjacent to the restoration
sites. These large wood pieces will contribute to greater steam habitat complexity, benefit stream processes to improve instream salmonid habitat and creek water retention to benefit the redwood forest surrounding the creek, reduce sediment in the main channel of Stockhoff Creek, and enhance stream flow later into the season by
retaining more water in the floodplain and deepening pools. Large wood pieces will be moved into place using cable winches and hand tools only, no heavy equipment will be used. The project is broken up into three reaches. The total length of temporary disturbance to stream and riparian habitat will be approximately 400 linear feet over an area of approximately 0.25 acres. All temporarily disturbed riparian areas outside of the wetted channel will be treated and stabilized to prevent erosion. No live riparian trees will be removed as part of this project. Access and staging will occur via existing park roads and parking lots. All work in the restoration sites will be accessed on foot
and no vehicles will enter the riparian area.
