Document Description
The project is located on the Zone 12, Line A (Temescal Creek) flood control channel between the Eastshore Freeway (I-580) and Bay Street in the City of Emeryville, California. The project site is located just south of the Powell Street Plaza. The project entails removing approximately 525 feet length of sediment, approximately 2,000 cubic yards of material from a 12 feet depth, 30 feet wide, concrete lined and walled, U shaped concrete channel. The project will install an in-line check valve in the existing 60 inch reinforced concrete pipe outlet to the channel to prevent tidal waters from entering the drainage system. Temporary transverse cofferdams will be installed and water will be re-routed around the work area using automatically actuated pump pipelines. Cofferdams are anticipated to be earthen, structural or water dams (large water filled tubes) and augmented with sandbags, if necessary. Upon completion of the project, cofferdams will be removed from the channel and normal water flow established. Sediment will be removed with excavating equipment and hauled to an approved upland disposal site. All work will be performed on Flood Control District Properties and easements. The purpose of the project is to mitigate flooding and restore channel conveyance by removing sediment deposits and to mitigate future deposition within the existing drainage system.
