The project applicant, Borealis ESS, LLC, is proposing a Use Permit and Design Review to construct and operate the Borealis Energy Storage Project (“Project”), a lithium-ion battery energy storage facility capable of storing and delivering approximately 300 megawatts of electric energy and associated ancillary services into the California electric grid. The Project includes: Battery Energy Storage System enclosures ranging 10 to 20 feet in height, housing lithium-ion battery modules; Power Conversion System equipment; Medium Voltage transformers; Project substation with main step-up transformers; Power Distribution Center; operations and maintenance office and storage enclosure; approximately 0.5-mile overhead 115kV generation tie-line; fire and safety systems; site security features; landscaping and perimeter wall; and stormwater management system. The Project proposes interconnecting to the Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) 115-kilovolt (kV) Lakeville Substation located south and across Old Adobe Road from the Project site. Located on a 20-acre portion of a 137-acre parcel.
