Document Description
Caltrans proposes a preventative Safety Maintenance Project to preserve existing and install new safety measures on Interstate 5 (I-5) at post-mile (PM) 30.3/44.4), State Route 55 (SR-55) at PM 6.2/6.8), SR-73 (PM R27.7/R27.8L), SR-133 (PM 8.3/8.6) and I-405 (PM 8.3/11.7) in various cities, County of Orange. Existing pavement delineation at ramps will also be replaced where faded and wrong way pavement delineation will be installed at offramps. Yellow traffic signal backplates will be installed at intersections and curve warning signs will be installed at freeway ramps. Right shoulder rumble strips will be installed along Route 5 between Route 5/55 Separation and the LA County Line. The purpose of the project is to preserve existing safety and enhance safety by installing new safety measures where applicable. The need is due to degradation over time of preventative existing safety features. Estimated Disturbed Soil Area (DSA) for this project is less than one acre. Nightly lane, ramp, and connector closures are anticipated to perform the work activities. A Traffic Management Plan (TMP) will be coordinated with the cities prior to start of Construction. Construction duration is approximately 80 days. No bridge work nor vegetation removal are anticipated. The project is State funded only. All work will occur in Caltrans ROW. No new ROW is required
