Document Description
The Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (District) proposes to remove an underground reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and replace it with an earthen creek, within the Claremont Country Club property, that connects to the District’s Zone 12, Line B-1 flood control system downstream. The District will obtain an easement from the Claremont Country Club to construct the proposed project. The project involves the removal of approximately 140 linear feet of 48-inch diameter underground RCP and the construction of approximately 125 linear feet of new earthen open creek, relatively along the same alignment of the pipe with minor meandering where practicable, to be consistent with the upstream creek topography. An approximately 15-foot long grouted rock transition will connect the new open creek to the existing open channel downstream. The new creek will have a bottom width of approximately 3 feet with 2:1 side slopes or flatter. A new pre-fabricated bridge with an approximate clear span of 20 feet, width of 15 feet, and height of 8 feet above creek bottom will be installed over the creek to maintain golf course maintenance equipment and golf carts/golfers access. The new bridge will be supported by either reinforced concrete abutments supported by spread footings or drilled piers, located behind the top of banks. Rock slope protection may be installed upstream and downstream of the abutments for bank scour protection. The existing cement grouted rock headwalls at the culvert inlet and outlet would be removed. Approximately three non-native trees may be removed and mitigation trees planted, as necessary. The project site would be stabilized with planting native plants and seeds and installing sediment and erosion control BMPs. The purpose of this proposed project is to improve drainage, minimize potential for flooding downstream, and meet current FEMA design requirements.
