Document Description
WSRCD serves as a project partner with the CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit to help plan and implement hazard fuel reduction work in Shasta County. The current project will implement fuel reduction work within 100 feet of Dersch Road-- from Millville Plains Road to State Highway 44. CAL FIRE will implement treatment activities, which will consist of manual and/or mechanical fuels reduction and prescribed burning of approximately 450 acres on privately-owned lands along Dersch Road. Burning will be performed during favorable weather conditions with the approval of the Shasta County Air Quality Management District and will be implemented under an approved burn plan. The project will benefit local communities by reducing wildfire risk.

Reasons for Exemption
WSRCD has determined that the objectives of fuel reduction and the implementation activities as designed for this project will result in minor alterations to vegetation and land and therefore fit within the §15304 exemption. WSRCD has also determined that no exceptions exist which would preclude the use of this exemption, such as: (a) sensitive location, (b) cumulative impact, (c) significant effects on the environment, (d) impacts to scenic highways, (e) activities within a hazardous waste site, and (f) significant adverse change to the significance of any historical resource.
