Document Description
The Pit Resource Conservation District (Pit RCD) acting as the Lead Agency, is currently implementing fuel reduction activities to improve the protection of homes, communities, critical infrastructure, and public and private lands from wildfire while protecting environmental, natural and cultural resources. The project is reducing, fuel loads in a predominantly ponderosa pine forest adjacent to, and within the Rush Creek Community. Much of the thinning activity and tree removal has ben conducted under California Forest Practice Exemptions. Treatments (proposed and ongoing) include: biomass, mastication, hand thinning, piling, and emergent brush follow-up treatments. In addition to these treatments, the use of prescribed fire with a California Standardized Prescribed Fire Plan will be included.

Reasons for Exemption
The Pit RCD has reviewed the environmental/specialists' reports prepared by Registered Profession Foresters and other specialists and has determined that the project's implementation will result in multiple benefits - including restoration of the forest, watershed, and wildlife habitat. There will be no significant adverse impacts on endangered, rare, or threatened species or their habitats. There are no known hazardous materials at or around the project site. The project will avoid all archaeological resource sites. The project will not result in cumulatively significant impacts. The project will have no significant adverse effect on the environment.
