On September 4, 2024, the City Council of the City of San Bernardino approved Award of Construction Agreement to F.E.C. Electric Inc. (Ward 2, Ward 4) “Agreement”. The Agreement would allow for the replacement of the existing sports lighting poles for the Newmark Ballfields and Speicher Multipurpose Field locations. The Agreement would allow the City to issue F.E.C. Electric Inc. a “Notice to Proceed”, initiating the process to commence the sports lighting pole replacement.

Reasons for Exemption
The Agreement is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) pursuant to State CEQA Guidelines Section 15302, Replacement or Reconstruction (“Class 2”). The Class 2 exemption allows for the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures or facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced. Here, the Project involves reconstructing the ballfield facilities located on the same site as the existing facilities. None of the “exceptions” to the categorical exemptions apply under State CEQA guidelines § 15300.2.
