Document Description
The North Quincy Wildfire Resiliency Project is an 8,987-acre area of public land near American Valley and the greater Quincy area. The area was identified as a regional priority under the Regional Forest and Fire Capacity Program. The project will improve forest health in a critical, unburned Sierra Nevada ecosystem. The project will utilize hand thinning, mastication, mechanical thinning, and prescribed burning to promote community protection and forest resilience.

Reasons for Exemption
Public Resources Code, section 4799.05 statutorily exempts the North Quincy Wildfire Resiliency Project from CEQA projects for prescribed fire, reforestation, habitat restoration, thinning, or fuel-reduction projects, or to related activities included in the project description, undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed activities were reviewed in their entirety pursuant to NEPA in an Environmental Analysis, "North Quincy Wildfire Resilience Project," signed August 14th, 2024.
