Document Description
The Miramonte Fuel Break Project (project) involves roadside vegetation maintenance and construction of a shaded fuel break located in southeastern Fresno County. The planned treatment area will be approximately 200 feet in width and encompass 121 acres on SRA lands within the CAL FIRE FKU. The project is a cooperative effort between the Oak to Timberline Fire Safe Council, private landowners, and CAL FIRE. Vegetation targeted for removal will include accumulations of dense surface fuels (woody shrubs, down woody debris), pruning of branches, and hazard trees. A combination of mechanical and hand treatments will be utilized. The primary method will involve the use of 1-2 masticator(s). Hand treatments will include chain saws and pruning saws. Slash will either be shredded or lopped and scattered on-site.

Reasons for Exemption
This project fits into a Class 4 Categorical Exemption to CEQA (15304 minor alterations to land). Field review by a CAL FIRE Unit Environmental Scientist confirmed that no exceptions apply which would preclude the use of a Notice of Exemption for this project. The Department has concluded that no significant environmental impact would occur to aesthetics, agriculture and forestland/timberland, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, energy, geology and soils, greenhouse gas emissions, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology and water quality, land use planning, mineral resources, noise, population and housing, public services, recreation, transportation/traffic, or to utilities and service systems and wildfire following approval and implementation of this project. Documentation of the environmental review completed by the Department is kept on file at CAL FIRE Fresno-Kings Unit Headquarters at 210 South Academy Avenue, Sanger, CA 93657.
