DWR plans to suction dredge excess sediment in Bay 2 of the Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates (SMSCG) to properly install a refurbished radial gates so SMSCG meets operational design. Dredged material will be pumped into a separation system, which will separate solids to be properly disposed of and filter water back to Montezuma Slough. The project is the most cost effect and practicable way to remove the sediment buildup and bring the SMSCG back to operational design.

Notice of Exemption
Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 4- Existing Facilities; California Code of Regulations, title 14, section 15301
Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt because the removal of sediment is repair and maintenance of the existing Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates (SMSCG) facility. The SMSCG is an existing artificial waterway device used to control salinity in the Suisun Marsh to meet permit conditions of the State Water Project. This project will not result in impacts to special status species or habitat. Because this activity can be implemented without any significant environmental impacts, the Categorical Exemption Class 1 will be used for CEQA compliance.
