Document Description
Repair a sinkhole on Route 84, La Honda Rd, at postmile 17.04, near Fox Hill Road in the Town of Woodside in San Mateo County. Caltrans Field Maintenance has backfilled the sinkhole with asphalt concrete to prevent roadway closure at this location as a temporary measure. The sinkhole developed at the westbound (WB) SR 84 within the intersection area, approximately 10 feet from an existing drainage inlet where an existing 18” corrugated metal pipe (CMP) cross culvert is located. From our onsite investigation, the invert of the 18" CMP cross culvert has been undermined and created voids under and around the culvert. The roadway sinkhole formed is likely a result of the soil loss under and around the culvert through the undermined invert. Work must be completed to prevent further damage or loss of life.
