Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Section 15302, Class 2
Reasons for Exemption
Section 15302 categorically exempts projects that involve the conversion of overhead electric utility distribution system facilities to underground including connection to existing overhead electric utility distribution lines where the surface is restored to the condition existing prior to the undergrounding. The project is exempt because it involves the replacement of existing steel streetlight poles that have deteriorated over time with new concrete poles and undergrounding the existing aerial wires, which are prone to damage due to proximity to adjacent trees. The proposed replacement of streetlight infrastructure does not expand the streets’ existing use nor create an expansion of utility capacity.
