Document Description
The Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (District) proposes to repair a portion of Dry Creek (District Zone 5, Line L), located 630 feet downstream of Railroad Avenue, between the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) tracks and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks in Union City, Alameda County. The project involves restoring an approximately 275-foot-long section of the trapezoidal earthen channel close to its original condition, mitigating further erosion and sedimentation. Approximately 885 cubic yards (CY) of soil will be excavated with approximately 235 CY of soils to be reused in backfill and vegetated soil lifts. Excess excavated soils will be removed and disposed of offsite. Approximately 60 CY of rock-slope toe protection (RSP) would be installed along approximately 50 linear feet of the west bank. Approximately 45 CY of the existing RSP adjacent to the concrete apron with cutoff wall near the UPRR tracks will be removed, salvaged, and reused for a flow dissipation band upstream of the concrete apron. Additionally, the existing gravel maintenance access road along the west side of the bank would be resurfaced with aggregate base. All disturbed areas will be restored by hydroseeding with a local seed mix and planting new native vegetation. The purpose of the project is to repair the eroded creek bank to prevent further erosion and restore the creek close to its original design section to maintain the capacity to contain and convey 100-year design storm flows.
