Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-NAP-40385-R3, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to Kalaris Family Vineyards. The project is required to address erosion as a result of the incorrect construction of a bridge over Blossom Creek at the project site, as detailed below. The project is limited to the restoration of Blossom Creek to restore and enhance incised and eroding streambanks with an engineered stabilization structure and a widened floodplain bench and layback streambank, including native plantings. The project would leave the existing bridge in place and improve both banks upstream and downstream of the bridge. The project includes: 1. The placement of a 186 square-foot bank stabilization structure with Pyrawall, a geotextile-enforced vegetated soil lift, above 4-foot diameter boulders on the left bank to protect from scour around the bridge at the downstream end. 2. Grading of the left bank to the floodplain bench, removal of four existing riparian trees, and planting these areas with native woody plantings for roughness. 3. Brush trenches installed in the left bank floodplain bench, perpendicular to the creek at approximately 20-foot intervals. These trenches will include large woody debris harvested onsite, boulders, and willow (Salix sp.) cuttings. The streambank above this bench will be graded to 2:1 slope layback. 4. Installation of a 772 square-foot bank stabilization structure on the downstream right bank with Pyrawall above 4-foot diameter boulders to build the stream back up to approximate pre-bridge conditions and protect from scour around the bridge at the upstream and downstream ends. 5. Multi-benefit large wood and boulder features, constructed with trees removed within the project site, will be placed farther downstream to increase channel roughness and reduce erosion at the toe of bank. All work will be conducted when the channel is dry. The project will result in 0.04 acre (1,848 square feet) and 172 linear feet of permanent impacts. The project will also include 0.09 acres (4,036 square feet) of restoration which will temporarily disturb 0.15 acre and 220 linear feet. Four riparian trees will also be removed.
