Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
State CEQA Guidelines § 15301, Existing Facilities
Reasons for Exemption
The project, involving the demolition of 2 potable water reservoirs and the relocation of SCADA and AMI equipment, would be similar in scale and generate a similar amount of waste (much of which will be recyclable) as the types of demolition listed in State CEQA Guidelines Section 15301.

Exempt Status
Other
Type, Section or Code
State CEQA Guidelines § 15061(b)(3), “Common Sense” Exemption
Reasons for Exemption
The “Common Sense” exemption is also applicable because this project would be exempt under Section 15302 if the reservoirs were going to be demolished and replaced on site with similarly sized facilities. Common sense dictates that if demolishing and replacing facilities would not have a significant impact on the environment, then merely demolishing the existing facilities without constructing replacements would also not have a significant impact on the environment. This reflects that demolition would occur more quickly, use fewer resources, and generate less waste than would demolition followed by reconstruction.
