Document Description
Pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1652, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved the El Jaro Creek Rancho San Julian Fish Passage and Habitat Enhancement Project submitted by Timothy H. Robinson, Cachuma Operation and Maintenance Board.
The primary purpose of the Project is to enhance fish habitat through habitat improvement, barrier removal, and bank stabilization. The Project will mediate the limiting factors of water quality, excessive sediment yield, salmonid rearing requirements, and fish passage. The species that will benefit from this Project is southern California steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss).
The Project includes installation and repair of features to benefit and enhance fish habitat. The channel upstream of the fishway will be reconfigured to remove a sediment bar that is encroaching upon the fishway upstream entrance, stabilize the right bank of the creek with toe-of-slope rock slope protection, and install native vegetation to stabilize sediment. The Project will provide a net benefit to southern California steelhead by improving habitat in El Jaro creek and enhancing fish passage. The size of the project is 0.12 acres and 175 linear feet.
