Document Description
Project authorizes relocating a medical waste treatment and transfer facility to an existing 20,783 square foot industrial building. The facility would treat biohazardous and sharps waste, and store and transport pathology, pharmaceutical, and trace chemotherapy waste. Operations include dispatching trucks with enclosed cargo holds to facilities which generate medical waste, transporting the waste to the treatment facility, sterilizing and compacting the waste, and transporting it to a landfill for disposal.

The proposed project for a medical waste treatment and transfer facility is categorically exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") according to section 15301, Class 1 (New Construction or Conversion of Small Structures) of the CEQA Guidelines. Section 15301 provides an exemption for interior or exterior alterations involving such things as interior partitions, plumbing, and
electrical conveyances. The proposed medical waste treatment facility is proposed within the existing building with only interior alterations proposed, primarily for the installation of new equipment. None of the exemption exceptions listed under CEQA Guidelines section 15300.2
exist.
