Document Description
The landowners, Don Meamber and Barbara Hull own adjoining parcels and divert from a shared irrigation diversion and pump station on the Shasta River near the town of Montague, CA. The project will replace an existing tube screen that does not meet current NOAA standards. It will be replaced with a cone screen, and associated appurtenances to allow for continued legal riparian diversion of irrigation flows from the Shasta River. Benefits will include continued agricultural diversion for the landowner as well as improved protection for salmonid species at all life stages that utilize the river environment.

Reasons for Exemption
The project will replace an existing fish screen with minimal disturbance to the bed or bank of the Shasta River. A small area will be dewatered and concrete will be poured to anchor the new cone screen in the intake bay of the pump station. The project is less than 5 acres and is primarily being implemented to protect habitat and environmental conditions for salmonid species. The North Coast Water Quality Control Board will issue the General 401 Certification For Small Habitat Restoration Projects Notice of Applicability. SHRP projects are eligible for a NOE Notice of Exemption status.
