Document Description
This project will replace one stream crossing culvert on Fort Bragg Sherwood Road. The existing culvert pipe is heavily corroded and has reached the end of its operational service life. The culvert crossing conveys flows from an un-named ephemeral stream.
The new culvert pipe will be installed at the same location and approximate depth as the existing pipe and has been sized to pass the peak discharge of a 100-year storm event. The new culvert pipe will be backfilled with Class II aggregate base. The road section will be resurfaced to match existing. Concrete headwalls will be installed at the inlet and outlet of the new culvert pipe to protect the road embankments from erosion. The work will be completed during the dry season. It is anticipated that the stream will be completely dry during culvert replacement activities. Heavy equipment will be operated from the road .surface. Work will take place within the roadway, and areas immediately adjacent to the roadway (i.e. road shoulders, road embankments). No trees will be removed and disturbance to vegetation will be minimal. Fort Bragg Sherwood Road will remain open with traffic control at the work location during construction. The project will not impact sensitive cultural or biological resources. Beneficiaries of the project are the traveling public.
