Document Description
Upgrade CCTV’S as part of the “Governor’s CCTV 10-Pilot Project” in Alameda County on Routes 80, 580, 880, and 980 at various postmiles. Work includes digging cement pull boxes, replacing all pull boxes with metal and solder the metal lid to prevent wire-theft attempts. Updating Caltrans' CCTV camera technology and strategically locating them to capture necessary data and incidents will have wide-ranging safety, mobility, and efficiency benefits, including: (1) improving the public safety by allowing Caltrans to monitor and react to traffic incidents and road conditions, (2) improving mobility by allowing Caltrans to collect the comprehensive data needed to improve highway investment decisions, and (3) increasing the efficiency of Traffic Management Center operators by providing higher performing, reliable technology to monitor traffic volumes and incidents. The new technology supports proactive safety enhancements through data collection and analysis. One example is near miss detection, which can show where collisions are nearly missed, in addition to locations where collisions have occurred. This artificial intelligence can also support expedited before and after analysis. Caltrans can potentially determine if an intervention has been effective much sooner by measuring the difference in number of conflicts and near misses, not waiting years to measure the difference in collisions.
