Document Description
This project will replace two existing vault covers. This will consist of demolition, removal, and disposal of existing reinforced concrete aprons and existing pre-cast concrete vault covers. New construction includes installation of new 10-in thick pre-cast vault covers, composite manhole frames and manhole covers, lifting rings, and related appurtenances. Roadway restoration work includes the installation of 5-inch of rubber asphalt hot mix cap over the top of the newly furnished vault cover and tying in the new roadway surface to existing surface, and restoration of traffic loops and striping as needed to restore the roadway to preconstruction conditions.

Reasons for Exemption
This project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 1 categorical exemptions set
forth in California Code of Regulations sections 15301. Section 15301 (Class 1) exempts from CEQA “the operation, repair, maintenance … or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities … involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination” including “(b) Existing facilities of both investor and publicly owned utilities used to provide electric power, natural gas, sewerage, or other public utility services.” The project consists of replacement of two existing vault covers. The project will not increase the capacity or otherwise expand the current use.
