Document Description
Project will repair and replace the roof of the Jack London Cottage at Jack London State Historic Park to allow for continued use of the cottage for park visitor education and interpretation. Crews will:
•Remove the old cedar shingle roof and related flashing;
•Patch and repair plywood sheathing where needed;
•Install new 18” Class B, #1 grade roofing shingles;
•Repair existing facia boards and prep and paint to match existing trim; and
•Paint all flashing to match existing trim.
The Fire Marshall permit has been submitted and approved for this work. A consultant will perform a bat survey prior to construction to confirm that the existing condition of bats not being present in the work area has not changed.

Project consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public, or private structures, facilities, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels; replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced, included as “reroofing” in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.4; and consists of projects limited to maintenance, repair, stabilization, rehabilitation, restoration, preservation, conservation, or reconstruction of historical resources, in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
