Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Section 15303
Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project for refinements to a battery energy storage system is exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") according to section 15303 of the CEQA Guidelines. Section 15303 provides an exemption for construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities or structures, or installation of small new equipment and facilities in small structures. The project proposes to refine an outdoor battery storage area at an existing industrial development within an urban area by adding concrete fire and noise-mitigating walls, modifying circulation and site access, and refining the landscaping. Therefore, section 15303 is an appropriate exemption for the proposed project. None of the exemptions listed under CEQA Guidelines section 15300.2 exist.
