Document Description
The Project proposes to restore 0.0064 acres of streambank that was degraded as the result of a pipeline break that occurred on August 31, 2021. The streambank will be restored to its original shape and slope using a biotechnical solution of rock slope protection filled with soil and planted with site appropriate native riparian vegetation. This biotechnical bank stabilization would maximize the habitat value at the site of the restoration, minimize visual and other impacts, and would minimize water service interruptions during construction. Appropriate BMPs and all necessary environmental protection measures will be in place prior to the onset of construction. The site will be cleared and grubbed within the limits of disturbance and the material will be stored in a designated staging area. One (1) 12-inch bay laurel and a less than three (3)-inch multi-stem oak tree will be removed. A 20 ft long steel sheet pile will be driven into the ground at the top of slope, just below the existing concrete thrust block. The top of sheet pile will be a minimum of 1’ below the finished ground surface. A small amount of permeation grout (~2 cubic feet) may be used to fill any potential voids behind the sheet pile and below the existing thrust block. Concrete sacks that were placed during an emergency repair will be removed. Approximately 34 cy of material will be excavated, including a keyway trench at the bottom of the slope. Approximately 57 cy of material will be used to re-construct a 1.5:1 vegetated boulder revetment, including 12 cy of class 2 permeable material (1’ thick) and 45 cy of class IV rock slope protection (3’ thick). After placement of each course of rock, soil or imported borrow will be jetted into the voids to ensure no air pockets remain. Earthen backfill (1’ thick with 90% relative compaction) will be placed above an existing concrete thrust block at the top of slope. The site will be planted according to an agency-approved revegetation plan.
