Document Description
The project is limited to the demolition and removal of existing gabion baskets, occupying approximately 168 square feet or riparian habitat, and replacement with rock slope protection (RSP) consisting of the native river cobble that is currently within the gabion baskets. Adjacent existing cobble-covered slopes will be interplanted with willow (Salix sp.) stakes to revegetate approximately 453 square feet of the riparian area. As part of the project, approximately eighteen 3.5-inch diameter steel pipes will be driven using hand tools into the bank and cut above grade six inches or less to support a removable seasonal access aluminum staircase and ramp. The project will result in approximately 168 square feet of temporary impacts to the riparian habitat from the removal of the gabion baskets. Approximately 453 square feet of riparian habitat will be revegetated with willow stakes to offset the temporary impacts. Of the 168 square feet of habitat where gabions will be removed, approximately 98 square feet will be left unvegetated to allow for seasonal placement of the staircase and ramp, therefore there will be no new permanent impacts. No grout will be used to install the pipes. Access and staging will occur via existing roads and developed areas. No trees will be removed as part of this project.
