Document Description
The project is limited to the stabilization of an approximately 325-foot long stretch of stream bank which has been actively eroding. The bank stabilization will be conducted using biotechnical techniques. The first five feet in elevation of bank will be stabilized using three to four rock lifts interplanted with willows. The rest of the bank will be laid back and planted with native riparian plants. All temporarily disturbed areas will be replanted with native riparian plants. If water is present when project activities are to be conducted, dewatering and fish rescue will be required. No trees will be removed as part of this project. The project as amended will reduce the amount of excavation into the stream banks, with minor excavation occurring at the toe of the bank to key in boulders for the bank repair. In the area of environmental concern, excavation will be minimized, placing rock and soil fill without bank disturbance. The design remains unchanged at all other work locations with toe excavation and some bottom of bank excavation to accommodate rock work. An additional change to the project will remove construction of two planned alcove features, to reduce the need for excavation in culturally sensitive areas. Instead, two rootwads with boulder anchors will be added to provide similar high-flow refugia habitat for aquatic species. With the revisions to the project design, temporary impacts to riparian habitat will be reduced from 0.18 acres to 0.11 acres, and permanent impacts to riparian habitat will be reduced from 0.05 acres to 0.03 acres. Linear footage of stream impacts will remain unchanged. The number of top-of-bank plantings will also be reduced to protect cultural resources, with riparian restoration and enhancement totaling 0.49 acres.
