Document Description
The Project will coduct maintenance and protection repair activites to the existing Main Street Bridge (Bridge) located east of the intersection of Main Streeet and Beach Road in the Town of Tiburon, Marin County. The Project site is situated on a small beach along Raccoon Strait (Strait) that connects into San Francisco Bay. Saltwater exposure from the Strait has resulted in concrete spalling and rebar corrosion of the existing 65-foot-long concrete spanning Bridge. The existing Bridge consists of two concrete abutments, existing riprap for scour protection at the seawall toe, and concrete girders with embedded steel beams that support the roadway and sidewalk of Main Street. Bridge repair and protection activities will include the following: (1) temporarily relocating the existing riprap boulders with a long-reach excavator from the roadway to access the Bridge, (2) repairing existing concrete cracks; (3) cleaning and/or removing corroded rebar; (4) patching concrete spalls; and (5) if necessary, adding new zinc anodes to the concrete reinforcing to prevent further steel corrosion from occurring. Landslide of the Bridge, steel trench plates will be installed for additional protection. Debris mats and formwork will be utilized during concrete removal and pouring for containment and spillage prevention. Construction equipment will not be stored on the shore and all work will occur at the lowest tide during dry conditions
