Document Description
The Project proposes to develop a 700kW/1284kWh solar and storage facility at the existing Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District (District) water storage facility (project). The solar array and supporting infrastructure are accessory to the existing facility, and will provide a source of clean, renewable energy to help offset the District's energy usage. Beneficiaries of the project include the District, residents, Kern County, and the State of California. The project will help lower operating costs for the District and make the facility more cost effective. It will also reduce the demand for energy that would otherwise be generated by electrical generation using coal or other fossil fuels, thus reducing criteria air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the Project will help the State in achieving its energy storage mandate under Assembly Bill (AB) 2514, its renewable energy and greenhouse gas emissions reduction objectives under the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard, Senate Bill (SB) 350, SB 100, and the CA Global Warning Solutions Act (AB 32) by developing the solar power generation facility.
